Qingming Festival 清明节

Qingming Festival will be here again tomorrow, which is April 5. Qingming, which means clear and bright in Chinese, is time for people to hold memorial ceremonies for the dead. It is a time to express one's grief for lost relatives. On each Qingming Festival, all cemeteries are crowded with people who come to sweep tombs and offer sacrifices.
The Qingming Festival is also a time when the sun shines brightly, the trees and grass become green and nature is again lively. Since ancient times, people have followed the custom of Spring outings. People go to walk in the fields or fly kites in the bright clear sky. Besides, people also plant trees during this time of the year. The weather is good for plants and trees to grow.
The Qingming Festival sees a combination of sadness and happiness.

Chinese pay homage to Yellow Emperor

Saturday is Tomb Sweeping Day, or Qingming Festival in Chinese, when people pay respects to their ancestors. In Shaanxi Province in northwestern China, people are gathering to commemorate their legendary ancestor, Huangdi, or the Yellow Emperor.
Huangdi is said to have built the Chinese nation by unifying warring tribes. Legend has it that he ruled the land for exactly one hundred years. And he taught people skills such as how to cultivate their own food, make clothes and treat diseases.
