dog days 三伏天

The dog days will arrive soon .We had better install an air-conditioner.

三伏天快要来了，我们最好安装一部分冷气机。解析：一年之中最炎热的日子，中国人称为伏天或者三伏天。英国人则叫这段日子做dog days(狗的日子)。按每年七、八月，大犬星座(Canis Major)里的天狼星(Sirius,the Dog Star)会跟太阳同时起落。古罗马人相信，这两个月的酷热天气，是太阳加上天狼星的热能造成的。所以，他们叫这日子做caniculares dies，译成英文，就是canicular days或dog days了。

for+一段时间。 He has been here for two hours. I have worked here for 3 years since i left school.
完成时经常跟for 或since引出的表示一段时间的状语。

for the past few days=过去几天以来,有时候用over the past few days。有些人还用 in the past few days“刚过去的几天中”。
