Many people follow the custom of wearing a carnation on Mother’s Day in the United States but day lily(萱草) is the flower for mothers in Chinese culture. Here is the poem about day lily by famous Chinese poet Meng jiao to show care and love of mothers to her kids.

《游子诗》
萱草生堂阶，
游子行天涯。
慈母倚堂门，
不见萱草花。
In Australia,the chrysanthemum is sometimes given to mothers for Mother's Day, which falls in May in the southern hemisphere's南半球 autumn, which is when the flower is naturally in season. Men may sometimes also wear it in their lapels翻领 to honour mothers. You can find the word "mum" in the flower chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemums were first cultivated培育 in China as a flowering herb草药 as far back as the 15th century BC. The plant is renowned著称 as one of the Four Gentlemen四君子in Chinese and East Asian art. The plant is particularly significant during the Double Ninth Festival重阳节. The flower may have been brought to Japan in the eighth century AD and the Emperor adopted采用 the flower as his official seal玉玺. The "Festival of Happiness" in Japan celebrates the flower.
“A Mother's love is something that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish and enduring . . .” Mother is such a great personality品格 that she is unique特别 and her love is eternal永远. Nothing else in the whole universe宇宙 is a match相比 to the mother. Mother kept on giving, giving and giving... all her life.
