Dear All,

I have had some of the companies’ feedbacks from your applications. It turns out some of you were less professional in your approach.

CVs:

Some of you had just incorporated the CV into body of the email, which was not easy for the reader to assimilate.

Please REMEMBER to send your CVs as attachments, and also make use of covering letters to highlight particular areas of relevant skill or experience.

INTERVIEW:

Some of you wore Jeans to the interview. It is not very appropriate. Please make sure you are dressed appropriately for the position for which you are being interviewed. Some companies have a much more relaxed approach to dress than others but, if in doubt, wear a suit. You won’t be criticised for being too smart but employers will notice if you walk in wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt!

The following tips from employers should help:

• Ensure that you maintain impeccable standards of personal hygiene but avoid using overpowering deodorants, aftershave or perfume.

• Your hair should be neat and tidy and your shoes and clothes clean.

• Avoid inappropriate jewellery. Visible body piercings, ankle chains or personalised necklaces may not be suitable. Men should restrict jewellery to cuff-links and a signet or wedding ring.

• Dress appropriately. It is important that you look smart for your interview but equally important that you feel comfortable. Men should avoid gimmicky ties or socks. Women should avoid very short skirts, very high heels and heavy make-up.

Make sure that your interview outfit is ready the night before, get a good night’s sleep and set off in good time.

APTITUDE TEST:

The University of Nottingham, UK is now open their online aptitude test to UNNC. You could check online for the test and gain some idea of how the tests look like. There might be some tests involved in the selection process. http://winster.nottingham.ac.uk/ccd/student/online_assessment.asp

Here are some general tips for the test:

• Eliminate as many wrong answers as possible, For example, with numerical test, a quick estimate may help you to discard several of the options without working out every alternative.

• Work as quickly and accurately as you can. Both speed and accuracy are important, so do not spend too long on any one question.

• Do not waste time on a difficult question. If you are stuck, leave it and move on.

• Don't worry if you do not finish all the questions in the time, but if you do, go over your answers again to check them.

Btw, I have attached two flies of tips for the CVs and Interviews. Please make sure that you read that carefully before your application and interview.

Best wishes,

Eva
