Strong quake hits Pakistan, at least 100 killed巴基斯坦发生地震

QUETTA, Pakistan – A strong earthquake struck villages in southwestern Pakistan before dawn Wednesday, killing at least 100 people, injuring scores more and destroying hundreds of homes, officials said.

The death toll（人数） was expected to rise as reports arrived from remote areas of Baluchistan province, an impoverished（贫困） area bordering Afghanistan.

\"It will be much more,\" Sohail ur Rahman, a top civilian official in one of the affected districts, told Dawn News television.

This is news from Yahoo. News and reports are easy to understand because they are written in si mple sentence structures. Only some special terms are hard for people to understand better. When we read or listen to English news most of the time the names of places and people prevent us from understanding. It is better advice to learn some popular names of places and people by heart so that we can undertand English news well.

That's right. English-English dicitonary gives exact explanantions than Chinese-English dictionary.

看懂了英英解释，往往更能熟练准确的应用词汇，而初学时候，我翻汉英词典写英语，闹了很多低级笑话，呵呵

For the English beginners better not use 汉英词典 when writing something in English. Do listening and reading first before we begin writing in English. When we do listening and reading we can learn many useful words and expressions. We can learn them by heart and use them in writing when our English is good enough.

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the destructive earthquake in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province has crossed 300, the state television reported Friday.
