Launguage Learning Experience

My son, Jim is 19 years old this year. He is a freshman in a university in Beijing. He is the only child in our family, for the government carries out family planning policy which requires each family have one child. How nice if we could have a daughter. Then the brother and sister would give us more joy. Now my son has gone to school and my wife and I sometimes feel a bit lonely without my son staying with us. Occasionally I recall his childhood when I miss him. Here I’d like to share my son’s experience of learning Chinese language with you. When he just started his primary school he read “领街主演” instead of \"领衔主演” when we watched TV plays. Of course his mother corrected him many times before he learned the correct pronunciation. From this experience i can say younger kids are not afraid of making mistakes when they speak. It is good for us to learn a foreign language. Many of us adults are afraid of making mistakes when we speak English. So we dare not speak out. That's why we learned many years of English but can't use it well in our conversation. We should learn from the young kids when we practice English. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. When you make mistakes you will have chances to correct them. Otherwise you will not improve your language skills.
