After Shanghai and Beijing, Tianjin has become the third provincial area in China to reach a GDP per capita figure of over 5000 US dollars, China Business News reports. In 2006, the GDP in Tianjin increased by 14% to 433 billion RMB yuan. The GDP per capita figure for Tianjin residents is now 5170 US dollars.
The economic development in Tianjin is due to the constant reformation(持续的改革)of the city's economic foundations(基础). Over the last decade(十年), the economic development in Tianjin has been fast and stable(稳定). Between 2000 and 2006 the GDP figure doubled(两倍).
Notably(特别上), the Binhai New Area(滨海新区) in Tianjin, which is part of the national-wide \"Eleventh Five-Year Plan\", contributed an added value(附加值) of 195 billion RMB Yuan to the Tianjin economy in 2006. Its financial value increased by 20%, taking 45% of the city's total added value. What's more, the total import and export value of Tianjin Port has increased by 22%, breaking through the 100 billion US dollar mark.
However, there are still those who point to room for improvement in the economic structure of Tianjin, arguing that the sustainable(可持续性) development of the city should be based on a balance(协调) between the economy, energy and the environment. |
