Summer officially arrived yesterday at 2:06 pm. The first day of summer is also the summer solstice(夏至), which is the longest day of the year. Some people celebrate the solstice with parties or festivals, especially at ancient sites such as the Stonehenge rock formation in England.
Starting today, there will be less daylight each day -- one second to as much as 2 1/2 minutes -- until December 22. That's the winter solstice(冬至), or the year's shortest day.
For the record, today's sunrise was at 5:43 and sunset will be at 8:37. |
