BARGUNA, Bangladesh - The death toll（死亡人数）from Bangladesh's most devastating（破坏性） storm in a decade climbed to at least 2,300 on Sunday and relief（救援）officials warned the figure could jump sharply as rescuers reach more isolated（偏僻的）areas.

Teams from international aid organizations worked with army troops in a massive（巨大的）rescue effort that drew help from around the world. Rescue workers cleared roads of fallen trees and twisted（扭曲的）roofs to reach remote villages, but tents, rice, water and other relief items were slow to arrive. Hungry survivors（幸存者）, thousands of whom were left homeless, scrambled for food.

The death toll rose as officials made contact with coastal regions cut off by the storm, said Selina Shahid of the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management.

Cyclone in Bangladesh Kills Thousands

The official death toll from Bangladesh's worst cyclone(风暴)in a decade topped 3,100 yesterday.

Recovery efforts still are underway in some of the Asian country's most remote areas, plagued（被困）by washed-out roads. Officials with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (similar to the Red Cross) said the final death toll could top 10,000.

The tropical cyclone Sidr roared（冲向）ashore Thursday, battering（击毁）coastal villages with what one resident called \"the winds [of] hundreds of demons（恶魔）.\"

Relief organizations are airlifting（空投）supplies to damaged areas. However, items such as tents, rice and water have been slow to reach many people.
